A Brief Introduction to Field Hockey

The game Field hockey is a team sport from the family of hockey. It is also called as hockey or grass hockey. It was first played around England during the 19th century.

The game can be played by both sexes or by both male and female. The game can also be held or played either on a grass field or a turf field. The game consists of two teams that have eleven players including the goalie. The two teams are playing against each other by moving a ball into the opponent’s goal with the use of a hockey stick. The hockey stick can be in a form of a short stick which is made out of either a wood or fibre glass. It is used in order to hit a round, hard, rubber like ball. The uniform of the players can come in the form of shin-guards, cleats, skirts or shorts, and a jersey.  Hockey ball, hockey stick, mouth guard and shin pads are some of the equipment that are used in the game.

The term “field hockey” is used primarily in countries like Canada, the United States, Eastern Europe and other regions in the globe where the sports ice hockey is very popular. When the 21st century begins, the game has become so popular that it is played across the globe. In some countries, like the United States, the game is considered as women’s or girls’ sports. It is the ice hockey that is considered (though not exclusively) as the sport for the men or the boys. It is so famous that is played in every part of the world. As a proof of its popularity, the game has become the national sport of Pakistan. It is also assumed as the India’s national sport as manifested in a number of Indian books, though technically speaking, the country does not have a national sport

During the play, goals keepers are the only players of the game who are allowed to touch the ball with any part of their body. Bear in mind that the player’s hand is also considered as part of the stick or the hockey stick. The field players hit the ball with the flat side of their hockey stick. The team who gets the highest scores in goals are the considered as the winner. In some cases, wherein the two teams get a tie score, a draw can be declared or the game gets into extra time.

The International Hockey Federation or FIH is the association that governs the sports. It is composed of men and women who represent in international competitions such as the Olympic Games, Champion’s Trophy, World Cup and World League to name a few. The said association is also responsible for implementing the rules for sports.

Hockey Image Window Blinds, Bed Sheets, and Other Things For The Super Fanatics

Hockey is one sport that is definitely loved widely by the masses. This game involves the use of the puck and a hockey stick to shoot into the opponent’s goal. It is a team effort and so, that has brought in a whole lot of avid followers.

Now, supposing you are a super fanatic, making a room or your whole home with the theme of hockey would be such a wonderful idea, right? There are a lot of different designs and decors that can be established and implemented.

Whether an individual is a male or a female, young or old, the love for hockey will certainly be expressed and shown through the following:

  1. Bedding

Let’s say the bedroom is the focus. The bed would essentially be the most important, as when one enters the space, it would be the one to be highlighted. And so, using bed sheets and pillows that have hockey designs from symbols, players and team names will give that specific sports vibe.

  1. Wall colour

Paint the walls a new coating. Go blue or red or both, depending especially on the group that you are rooting for. You can even go up a notch by creating a mural.

  1. Jerseys

For sure, many hockey followers have their own collection of player jerseys. Why not put them up on display instead of hiding them inside the dark closet? Line them up on the walls or do an arrangement that you yourself likes.

  1. Pucks and hockey sticks

Of course, this set is not to be absent at all. You can head on to a local shop to bring them in or most probably, you already have these at home. Again, do not just keep them out of sight. Living room, kitchen, bedroom – wherever you place them up, they will indicate you are one hard core fan.

  1. Table hockey

And if you can’t get enough of the action you see on TV or watch live on the arena, quench that game thirst through table hockey! Purchase a set that can be set up at home and play with it with family and friends.

Typically, homes and other structures have windows and it is vital that they are not left open and bare. If so, comfort, privacy and security levels become less to nothing. And who would want that? As much as you like hockey, you do not want someone to peep inside your residence to watch the game with you, right? This example just leads to the grave need to have coverings like window blinds.

And the perfect fit blind is the kind to go for. As they “perfectly fit,” there is assurance that you have proper concealment and safety. Plus, you get the shade and ventilation when light from outside sources begin to be disturbing.

Super fanatics of hockey out there, do not be afraid and stay proud of the game you love. Through these things – these design and décor elements – inspired by the sport, you can be able to draw others to it as well.

Designing a Safe Hockey Field

hockey fieldCan you imagine the Egyptians playing field hockey? The game of field hockey originated from the Egyptians 4,000 years ago. It later evolved to be a game that was primarily played in schools in England. The challenges of Egyptians in playing the hockey game would be the uneven and sandy ground. Driving a ball with their sticks or horns may demand expertise and skills such that practice is an important factor in achieving success. As it evolved into being a game played in school grounds, the challenge of would have also evolved into playing in an uneven grass ground.

With any type of sports, prevention of accidents is an important element. Though a hockey field game is not much of a contact sport, it is a fast-paced type of game such that accidents may also occur while on the playing field. All possible factors that contribute to an accident happening should be looked into an prevented. Such is the value of landscaping west london. The maintenance of the playing field is one of the factors that can greatly affect the performance of a player.

Long before the artificial grass turf was invented, hockey players rely on the optimum maintenance of the even playing grounds. Under extreme weather conditions, the playing field may have changed and the grass may have grown that it needs trimming. However, with the advent of grass turf, players can now play safely on the playing field without tripping on a small stone or missing a goal because of an uneven grass growth.

On the other hand, there are also accidents that may occur when using grass turf. This is why west london landscapes should have the proper training in installing them. Heat is one of the problems that players may encounter in the playing field. When the weather is too hot, the grass turf can also contribute to the heat inside the playing field. Unlike a natural grass field that can be sprinkled with water, the grass turf is made up of synthetic polyethylene plastic, such that it absorbs heat rather than dissipates it.

Playing fields that are installed with artificial grass turf should be seen by landscape experts, not only for aesthetic purposes, but to ensure that the grass turf is within safety standards. Landscape experts also advise that once an owner decides to install an artificial turf, it should be well maintained and monitored on when it should be replaced.

The artificial grass turf was noticed because of the need of low maintenance hockey playing field. However, health and environmental safety hazards were starting to surface. Some of these are lead exposure, zinc hazard, toxic run-off water after a heavy rain as well as adverse effects on people with asthma.

Indeed, the artificial grass turf afforded the hockey playing field to be decorated with varied colors of grass. However, when it boils down to safety and comfort of the players and the audience as well, it may pose a far bigger disadvantage than the benefit it brings.

The Rules and Play in Field Hockey

The game consists of two teams that have eleven players. Each player is allowed to be on the pitch at one time. A substitution on the remaining players is also permitted. The sub in and the sub out of the players can happen in an countless number of times. Substitution is allowed at any part of the game, except from between the award and the end of a penalty corner. The exception for the said rule is when there is an injury or suspension of the defending goal keeper.

The players in the game are also allowed to hit the ball with the use of the flat or the face side and with the edges of the head and handle of the field hockey stick. For safety reasons, the hockey ball must not be struck hard with the use for a forehand edge stroke because such stroke is known for its difficulty in determining the height and the direction of the ball.

For a right-handed player, the flat side is always the natural side wherein the player hits the hockey ball from left to right. There are also left-handed hockey sticks which are available but considered as no point of use as the rules implemented forbid them from being use in the game. In striking the ball with a left to right swing, the player must use the flat of the face of the hockey stick to the ball by making a reverse of the stick head. Saying for example, the player must turn the handle through 180 degrees (as the reverse edge hit would turn the stick through 90 degrees from the position of an upright forehand stroke with the face of the stick head.

Hitting the edge of the ball is still considered as controversial in the sport. Ric Charlesworth, the current Australian coach for the team in Australia, has been expressing his strong objection about this unrestricted way of hitting the ball. It was banned after a number of related concerns were spoken regarding the capability of some players to direct the ball perfectly accurate, though the reverse edge hit is not considered as predictable and controllable than its equivalent.

No foot to ball contact, obstructing other players, high back swinging, no third party are some of the other rules that are implemented. Another rule that is implemented is can be put explained in this scenario: a player dribbles the ball then suddenly either loses control and kicks the ball or another player butts in the said player is not permitted to gain control of the ball and continue dribble. The rules that are implemented restricted the person who kicked the ball to gain advantage from the kick, so that means that the ball is then passed on to the opposing team.
