North Wales Cups 2011-12
17 September 2011
A dramatic day of cup games yesterday saw three of the semi finalists of the inaugural North Wales Cup decided. Colwyn Bay 1s saw off league rivals Bangor Uni 1s 5-3 at Eirias although it was better news for the university's second team as they cruised to an 8-1 victory against Northop Hall 2s that saw Hall fail to capitalise on their chances while Bangor Uni scored a number of breakaway goals. Colwyn Bay against Wrexham 2s was postponed owing to pitch unavailability and this will be replayed at a later date but in the big clash of the day, Northop Hall beat Wrexham 4-3 in a feisty clash at Glyndwr Uni. A 60th minute goal by the evergreen Nick Critchley sealed the result to send Wrexham home to plot their revenge in the next meeting of the sides in the League next Saturday.
In the League Cup, Bangor City beat Aberystwyth 2-1, the Bay beat Northop Hall 2-0 and Bangor Uni came out on top in the drama of the penalty shoot out to defeat a spirited Wrexham side. Oswestry and Rhyl's result is awaited with the winner to play Dysynni.
The semi finals will now be held either in December or early January outside the League window with the finals being held on the weekend of 23/24 March 2012 (day dependent on whether any League fixtures

The Cups have started and the big news is that the QF will see the two powerhouse first teams of North Wales go head to head in the QF of the Cup. Northop Hall 1s and Wrexham 1s will battle it out next Saturday at Glyndwr University in a dry run for their North ern Counties league fixture at the same venue a week later. In other ties, Colwyn Bay 1s will host a local derby against Bangor Uni 1s and with both now being in the same league, this could well be a titanic tussle. Wrexham's second string will host Bay's 2nd XI while Northop Hall 2s who outclassed a disappointing Llandudno 1s on Saturday, will host Bangor Uni 2s. The League Cup also starts next week.
Hockey Funday @ Northop Hall HC - 5th Sep 2011.
On Saturday the 5th of September Northop Hall Hockey Club hosted an event at Hawarden High School. The event was a fun day that marked both the lead-up to the Club's forthcoming 50th anniversary celebrations and the inauguration of the Junior section as a Junior Hockey Club in it's own right.
The fun day took the form of a mini tournament with Dysynni Hockey Club. There were mini games for Under 10's, U12's and U14's then the day was rounded off with a full game comprising teams made up of U12's and U14's.
The day began with a short introductory coaching course for adults given by Claire Bryant of the Welsh Hockey Union (Claire had travelled up from Cardiff to be in attendance at the event). Claire stayed for the entire day was very impressed with the Club's efforts.
There were in excess of 60 people including some who just came along to see what was going on and with stalls such as Burger & Beverages van, bouncy castle and sweet shop, along with a coconut shy and wellie-throwing competition, there was plenty to keep non hockey playing folks amused.
The highlight for many was seeing Northop Hall Coach Matt Pritchard and Hall's Junior 'Beavers' team manager Ian Williams in the stocks having wet sponges thrown at them by the junior team members. Dysynni's Coach Adrian Bennet was next and his entire junior squad lined up to take their turn with the sponges.
The day was a great success, with a number of people walking in off the street and wanting to join in, several new recruits to the club also emerged. The whole event was great fun, the attitude of every single junior player (and their parents and spectators) was exemplary and an example to much older players. Visiting club Dysynni, thanked Hall for their hospitality and for such a great and memorable day. A fantastic way to start the season.
